Mum is really unwell with cancer and was being cared for by an amazing team at Kalamunda hospital.
This is our first experience with a family member in palliative care and so we weren’t sure what to expect.
As bad as the health situation is with my mum, our family is so happy that she is under the amazing care of the staff at Kalamunda.
Even with our favourite Lance at the entrance and to the nurses completing the RATs - its always been a pleasure as the staff have been considerate and polite. Lance especially always is ready with a smile and a friendly hello which really makes a difference esp on the harder days.
The nursing staff that have been looking after mum are so engaged with her and always go the extra mile to make her feel comfy. She is so lucky. Do you know that one of the staff even played piano for her! And even brought her own violin from home and played it for her as she knew she loves to hear music! My family are so grateful and mum always tell us “you know what.. the staff here are sooo good”.
Mum can’t really do much by herself anymore but she knows that the ‘sisters’ are there to help her.
I know with her meds etc, she is not an easy patient and can be so cheeky but the nurses and doctor have always been so professional.
Based on my experience, I wish more people could see how hard the staff work and what their workloads are like, as then we -as a community- could look after the nurses and staff in return. Especially with all the challenges they have had with Covid and trying to manage all the reno work and patients, I feel the staff at Kalamunda should be proud of themselves.
Even at the time of writing this - it’s not easy leaving her to go back to work - but at least I know she has everything she needs and I know she is with the best people.
I just left her happy and ready for a sleep.
Thank you to the team at Kalamunda.
