Recently, I had acute pain in the left calf. It suddenly came on in the middle of the night and in the morning I could not walk without a limp. My left calf was very tender. I had no choice but to go to Kalgoorlie Hospital ED.
I was seen very promptly, triaged, had a negative RAT Test and got to see the ED Specialist. I felt she was very polite and empathic towards me and asked me my pain score. I said 7 out of 10. She gave me pain killers for my pain. I mentioned that I had COVID about 2 months ago. I had bloods done and then was sent to Medical Imaging to get a Doppler USG.
As I could not walk a PCA took me over in a wheelchair. I had a very thorough USG which showed that I had a 10 cm DVT in my left calf. The ED Specialist put me on oral blood thinners for 3 months with advice to see my GP thereafter. Everything was done quietly and efficiently with a minimum of fuss.
I would like to thank everyone in ED and Medical Imaging who were involved in my care. I am grateful for them to listening to me, for their empathy, promptly treating my pain, arranging my RAT test so that I was not a risk to the rest of the hospital. My bloods were taken very competently and the PCA staff was very careful in not hurting me while transporting me to Medical Imaging. The Ultra sonographer was very gentle but thorough in her assessment and I can't thank everyone for the level of care that I received.
I was particularly worried and my ED Specialist had a very calm demeanour which greatly reassured me. I got better within a few days! 3 cheers for Kalgoorlie Hospital ED and Radiology!
