"Burns"

About: Warren Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

Recently, my child burnt their hand on my wood fire place. I took them to the emergency department as the blister got bigger and I was worried it would pop then get infected.

I got told there is no doctor or nurse prac on that day and they had no doctor on call. I felt they didn't want anything to do with the burn even after I had a rats test. This was around midday.

Staff attitude

So they rang a local practice and I got in that afternoon.

The practice rang another hospital and got told the directions on how to treat it which turned out the doctor had to go back to the hospital to get all the dressing. The doctor surgery didn't understand why they didn't do it there for me. This really put me out.

Dear elephantyw99,

Thank you for taking the time to feedback in regards to your child’s presentation to ED at Warren Health Service

I am very sorry to hear about you care experience at the Warren Hospital and would like to offer my sincere apology that the care pathway following your child’s burn wasn’t clear or smooth.

Normally when presenting to the Emergency Department patients are triaged and assessed by our nursing team and appropriate care is provided either by the on call Doctor or if not available by the Emergency Telehealth Doctor.

We are committed to understanding further what occurred to prevent this experience for another patient. If you are comfortable, if you could please contact me with your child’s details and so I can assist with any further questions.

My name is Sharon Johnson Acting Clinical Nurse Manager and I am contactable on 0419380750.

Regards,

Sharon
