"Sense of urgency"

About: Perth Children's Hospital / General Surgery

(as a service user),

After waiting for a few hrs, an initial surgeon walked into the room looked at my child and for some reason it got passed on to a different doctor, I believe just because there was a delay in their list of patients, but why, how could something scheduled for, be seemingly taken out of the chart in a snap?

I feel there is a much more complex and serious issue which I've noticed when I brought in my child for a minor surgery.

The way my child's appointment was organised and the apparent delay breakdown I feel is alarming, seriously alarming! In my opinion, they should come up with some sort of super critical care management!

I ask myself, if I'm an elite doctor what would happen to me, do I slowly fall into the zone of what I believe to be taking my own sweet time to do my stuff? Avoid, in my opinion, another ethnic background patient as I may get into trouble or my job could be in stake here? Seem to be racially profiling someone because I can and who would ask me? And I feel in many many twisted ways, doctors could be dealing with things and I may not have a clue why things are just slow, slow and slow!

Why would a senior surgeon perform a minor surgery on my child? I'm thankful, but just a thought!

Dear sigmabc89,

Thank you for taking the time to write to Care Opinion about your recent experience at Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH).

I am sorry to hear that your experience during your child’s recent admission was less than satisfactory to you. Staff at PCH understand how stressful it is to have a child in hospital and we apologise if the communication regarding your waiting time was not well communicated to you on the day.

Equity is one of CAHS six core values, staff are always expected to adhere to these values. It saddens me to hear that you felt that equity was not demonstrated during your experience and I would like to address these concerns directly.

I encourage you to contact the Consumer Engagement Team on 6456 0032, to provide specific details regarding your concerns.
