"My transplant experience"

About: Prince of Wales Hospital / PB9W - Nephrology Ward

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Nurses were great on 9 Parkes West. Felix was the best. Very professional. Ali and Lily were great too. Dialysis staff were good too. Denise the transplant nurse is great. Doctors were good, very nice.

The stay was good, the food was good. I recall the only bad 3 days were when there was a patient on the ward who I believe wasn't a renal patient who would sleep all day and scream all night and because there was no door the noise could not be blocked out.

I found the showers are too low - I'm 6 foot so it was too low.

I didn't realise how sick I was until after the transplant. I feel amazing.

The hospital is a bit confusing, needs better signs. I got lost easy.

Dear cygnusxd59,

Thank - you for taking the time to write to us and share your story. We are extremely pleased to hear that your transplant journey was so supportive during your period of recovery. It is really pleasing to read your observations about the Renal Transplant Teams professionalism and compassion..

We will happily ensure that your kind words of gratitude and thanks are shared with Renal Transplant Team and especially Felix, Ali, Lily and Denise. We agree with your comments the Renal Transplant Team is a highly dedicated, compassionate and skilled in looking after patients who require support during this very complex care.

We thank - you for raising your concerns regarding the management of disruptive patients and the impact it can have on other patients in the ward. We will look at the showers and review what changes can be put in place for tall patients in the ward.

Thank- you for taking the time to share your kind words of gratitude and thanks with us they are greatly appreciated and help us to understand how important team work is in delivering patient centered care.

Kind Regards

Barbara Daly
