"Partner had a seizure"

About: Sale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

My partner had a seizure and was taken to Sale Hospital, they then put multiple needles in both arms and left them with bruises and still in pain, my partner never got told what was wrong with them the whole time they were there after we had left the hospital three days later my partner finds out they have sinus? I believe they never explained a thing to my partner about anything that’s going on. They done ct scan nothing came back or showed up, we now had to be in Melbourne for 24hrs because it has worsened and I felt there was no medication help or other help for my partner, it seemed to me they were sent home after having the fit in a taxi knowing they could have another seizure and wasn’t monitored.

I believe the staff I saw are rude unless you know them personally and every single doctor and nurse I dealt with sat and had conversations for long periods of time while the patient is in pain. There is more than just this I have to complain about based on my experience, if need be I will say more until then.

Dear piscesjw36

My name is Dr Ramesh and I am the Interim Director of Medical Services at Central Gippsland Health.

I am very sorry to hear of your partner’s poor experience. Your feedback clearly indicates that our communication could have been better by keeping your partner informed of any findings/test results/diagnoses, and the proposed care plan for ongoing management of their condition.

It would have been challenging for you both to be in Melbourne and away from home, due to the worsening of their condition, and without clear guidance on medications/treatment and ongoing monitoring.

I am sorry to learn that you felt our staff were rude and inconsiderate of your partner’s pain by having lengthy conversations with them. We appreciate that these conversations can be challenging, however it is through comprehensive history taking and assessment that the team is able to provide good care. Whilst a patient’s written medical record is helpful, it does not replace the value of information that a patient can provide directly about their condition.

In order for us to complete a comprehensive review of your partner’s experience, and address any areas where we may not have provided optimal care, I would welcome the opportunity to have a conversation with you in whatever way is most convenient (in person or by phone/email). This will also provide an opportunity for you to elaborate on your final comment regarding there being more information based on your experience - if you should choose to share this.

I can be contacted at Nadarajah.ramesh@cghs.com.au or (03) 5143 8700. I hope that your partner is doing better and look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Kind Regards

Dr Ramesh
