"Coral Bay Nursing Post"

About: Coral Bay Nursing Post

(as the patient),

I am writing to express my gratitude for the treatment I received from 'Jan' at the Nurse's Station in Coral bay in August 2022. I was most appreciative for her professional, thorough and reassuring care.

Whilst on holiday, I attended the clinic with heart palpitations which had been ongoing for several hours. I first rang the Nurse on Call and after describing my symptoms, she said she would contact the nurse on call at the clinic. Although the secretary at the clinic told me Jan had been up all night with another patient, after speaking to me Jan arrived in less than 5 minutes. She administered a Covid Test and that being negative she took me into the clinic. She explained that I would be there for some time. In reply to my worry that it might just be a panic attack she said that she would not send anyone on their way with my symptoms and that if she could not make me well 'we will be flying you out of here' She also told me that all the tests would be going to Perth as well. All of this was very reassuring and validating.

She then proceeded to get all of my details, hooked me up to the BP machine, took my pulse, checked my chest, ears and throat and did an ECG. Most people have difficulty getting blood from me as I have small wriggly veins but Jan managed to do so. As she was taking my blood, she enquired about my fluid intake and it turned out that it was very poor. She explained that people often underestimate the importance of hydration and that she sees many men and women experiencing the effects of dehydration. She gave me an IV drip which pretty soon made me feel much better. She showed me though that the urine test was still not good even after the litre of IV fluid I had had. As a result, I purchased a good supply of bottled water and have been much more aware of my fluid intake since.

Jan was so polite and supportive towards my husband who arrived during these procedures and was made to feel welcome. She was very aware and observant. I suffer from anxiety and at one stage she suggested that I try to take some deep breaths as I was 'shallow breathing'... she noticed everything.

By now, it was becoming apparent that my symptoms were caused by lack of fluids but Jan said that she would wait for confirmation from the doctors in Perth. I spoke to a doctor on the TV monitor and he reassured me that all my tests were normal and that he was happy for me to go, recommending that I contact my GP (or any GP) if necessary. Then I was cleared to go.

I cannot speak highly enough of Jan. Her presence was calming, her treatment first class and she did indeed 'make me well'. I think she is a wonderful nurse.

Thank you, Jan!!

Yours Sincerely,

arahb56

Dear arahb56,

Thank you for sharing your story, I do hope you have recovered well, and this did not distract from your holiday too much.

I was delighted to read how well Jan looked after you, providing professional, high quality care, whilst providing reassurance to you throughout. The Coral Bay Nursing Post provides a vital service to our community and the numerous tourists who visit there and Jan exemplifies the special kind of nurse required to excel in a remote environment.

I have already shared your feedback with Jan and added my appreciation of her fantastic service.

Kind regards

Kumar Deep

Acting Operations Manager Gascoyne.
