About: Kerang Hospital / Kerang Oncology Service

(as a carer),

As there is no cancer unit now locally, we travel to Kerang for my partner to have chemo therapy treatment. I found the nurses at Kerang oncology are compassionate, kind, friendly and make us very welcome. They make us feel at ease during treatment and explain what they are doing.

Our doctor is from Bendigo Oncology and provides all information immediately to Kerang Oncology. I’m also very pleased our oncology doctor from Bendigo visits us locally to minimise our travel as sometimes travel with a sick patient is very challenging.

I feel the country hospitals need more assistance to provide country patients chemo treatment.

Thank you for your feedback and kind words regarding our wonderful Oncology staff and services. Our staff love what they do and this is very evident in the way they care for those requiring treatment.

We fully appreciate the challenges with travel for treatment options in rural areas.

I pick up on your last sentence regarding country hospitals requiring more assistance to provide chemo services closer to home. We work closely with our partner hospitals and can reassure you that we are working on sustainability of oncology services so that your travel time is minimal.

I will pass on your lovely feedback to the staff and the Bendigo Oncology doctors who provide the outreach service.
