"Chairs in the nursery care"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

We had our baby in the nursery and they needed to be in there for at least seven days and we found the nursing chairs very uncomfortable and just not suited to function well. By the second day, I was actually dreading sitting in them which made it extremely difficult to feed and nurse and when pain starts to come into play from the chairs, it seems to me they need to be looked at and upgraded quickly and promptly.

Dear empathyss43,

Thankyou for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion. I am sorry to hear that your bub had to spend seven days in our nursery and I hope now that you are home, you and your bub are settling into the home environment.

Thankyou particularly for your comments on the comfort of the chairs. I will immediately look at replacement options. It is important following birth that you can be comfortable to feed and relaxed, in what can be, the stressful environment of the nursery.

If you have any further feedback in regards to how we can make parents more comfortable while their baby is in the nursery then I would love to hear them. Please feel free to email me katrina.jones2@health.wa.gov.au or call 9722 1348.

Thankyou again and I wish you and your family well.

Dear empathyss43,

I hope this message finds you and your family well.

I wanted to let you know that our recliner chairs had finally arrived and have been placed into the Special care Nursery. The parents have found them incredible comfortable, and a lot easier to feed and cuddle their babies.

Thankyou again for your feedback and suggestion, It has had a positive impact upon the families who now use the Nursery. If you have any further ideas please feel free to contact me via the email/phone details above, I would love to hear from you.

Take care
