My child and I got transferred from another hospital and arrived at sale hospital in the middle of the night. The next afternoon they came in to tell me about the hospital policies. I think they were quite rude and I feel like this is information that I should have been told upon arrival rather than the next day, I did get quite upset cause of how rude I felt the nurse was about it. They also didn’t tell me about my child's condition until the next day which I was apparently supposed to be told about the prior night.

Hello my name is Kim Costin and I am a Unit Manager on the Women’s and Children’s Unit. Thank you for sharing your experience.

What you describe of your child’s recent admission certainly does not align with our ward excellence of care charter. A charter that has our patients and families at the forefront in the provision of excellence of care. Providing parents and regularly updating them on their child’s treatment plan and condition is recognised as essential in providing optimal care. From your story it is evident that we have failed to provide such care and for this we are sorry.

As a means of improvement through learnings, your story will be shared with the team in teaching the importance of meaningful and appropriate communication.
