I had suffered second and third degree burns to my right knee that I attempted to deal with at home. The wound started deteriorating after a couple of days so off to the BRH ED for me. There was a lineup of persons waiting to be seen and I felt the queueing process was well managed and monitored.
When it was my time to be seen it soon become apparent that I was going to be admitted due to the need of antibiotics via a drip. The hospital was very full and beds very scarce. The staff located a bed, and I then received the treatment that I needed to enable me to be discharged several days later. My story isn't about the bed shortage, it is about the fantastic outlook and attitude of the staff that were at the hospital during my admission and stay. I felt safe, cared about and accepted by the wonderful staff. Not once did I hear a bad word spoken of the hectic workload or continuous need for persons to work extra shifts. All I heard and saw was the caring of proud staff ensuring that the wellbeing of the hospital customers was being met.
A huge shout out of thanks to the BRH ED and ward staff that placed me back onto the road of recovery.
"BRH ability to cater for a bed need while already dealing with patient overload"
