"The excellent care and treatment we received"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

My pregnancy journey began with KEMH around the 24 week mark. An initial call with MGP (Midwifery Group Practice) to register my pregnancy care plan, visits and the what to expect as a first time mother.

A pre-scan detected an issue that required further investigation and monitoring. The MFM ward at the hospital made contact to bring us in for some additional scans and tests where I first met with Dr Shin and her team. I met Dr Shin at all my follow up scans and monitoring.

At every point, Dr Shin kept us well informed and tracked. She took a genuine care towards us and that meant the world to my partner and I particularly when concern was raised about our unborn’s potential future development.

Towards the end of my pregnancy I ran into an issue with my physical health. Dr Shin advised inducing the pregnancy due to a number of factors. Luckily the hospital were able to take us late on one day and by the following day our beautiful baby boy arrived safely that night.

MGP were amazing throughout. My two assigned midwife’s Mel & Ginny had kept me well informed leading into the delivery and Ginny provided me with the guidance, support and encouragement to get me through the labour and final delivery. Unfortunately Ginny did not get to stay until baby arrival but Holly another MGP midwife took over and supported me through the final pushing process. This was assisted by Monica an excellent midwifery student nurse from ECU. Monica was wonderful and kindly attended all my appointments with me throughout my pregnancy.

After a lengthy time of pushing some intervention was required. Dr Chantelle came in and advised us of the safest options and what needed to happen. She safely delivered our healthy baby boy. I was really impressed by Dr Chantelle’s management throughout. I felt empowered by the knowledge she shared and capable to make the decisions that needed to be made for us at that point in time. It wasn’t the easiest of delivery’s but Dr Chantelle did an excellent job delivering baby and taking care of us.

All the KEMH staff I dealt with were incredibly kind and supportive throughout our time in the hospital. My partner and I are from overseas, living abroad with no family support so to have received such kind treatment from all, we find it difficult to put into words how grateful we are for the care and kindness shown to us. The Doctors, Midwifes and Physio we encountered post birth were all extremely kind, engaging and informative.

However, special mention goes to Dr Shin, MGP Midwifes and Dr Chantelle who went above and beyond from day 1. They even stepped onto the ward to see baby and I post birth.

There was something very special about introducing our baby to the people whom had taken such a genuine interest in the care of us and our unborn. Thank you to Dr Shin, MGP midwifes & Dr Chantelle.

We were told by many that we were lucky to be under the care of KEMH. Your reputation exceeds you, but having no prior experience or knowledge of the hospital we did not know what to expect.

We have had such a brilliant experience we couldn’t recommend or speak highly enough of the hospital and all your staff.

A big thank you to you all for providing such a wonderful and amazing service.

We will be forever grateful,

Dear composerje58,

Congratulations to you and your partner on the birth of your son. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your experience with the Women and Newborn Health Service (WNHS), King Edward Memorial Hospital.

I am so pleased to hear that you had a positive experience with our Midwifery Group Practice team (MGP). It is lovely to hear that you received the care and continuity you needed to support you through your pregnancy and the birth of your baby. Although your pregnancy journey did not go to plan, you received the care you needed to support you through the antenatal period, your labour and the birth of your baby.

I am also glad to hear that you were supported through your antenatal journey by the staff of our Gold team, Dr Shin, Mel, Ginny, Holly and Dr Chantelle during your labour. Our staff strive to provide our patients and their families with the support to achieve positive outcomes during their pregnancy journey, particularly when birthing plans are changed, such as your experience.

We will be sure to send your appreciative comments to all the staff involved, with special thanks to Mel, Ginny, Holly, Dr Shin and Dr Chantelle.

WNHS strives to always provide quality, patient-centred care and we are incredibly proud of the maternity care that is provided by our staff and the way they work with our patients to achieve positive outcomes.

Once again, thank you for providing us with this feedback. I wish you and your family all the best for the future.
