"Knee injury"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

We attended Bunbury campus recently.   We bought our child in after they suffered an injury to their knee.   When we arrived I believe there was one patient waiting .    Once we had their initial  chat with the nurse we sat in fast track for 2.5 hours.  When I asked for someone to provide my child some additional pain relief we were finally called through the doors into emergency.  We ended up sitting there for an additional 1.hour with only the nurses doing minimal checks on them .   Eventually the initial doctor who called us in came and asked if we’d been to the X-ray yet.  Of which we hadn’t been anywhere.   No doctor came near our child at all to enquire about their welfare or injury.   My child wasn’t even given and additional pain relief.   I felt the doctors seemed too interested in using their phones or using the computers.  It seemed the staff were busy talking about their rosters rather than attending to the patients.   Our child became distressed due to their pain.   Due to this apparent lack of care we left around midnight.

Dear Bbking1674

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience during a recent visit to the Bunbury Emergency Department. I was saddened to read that the care provided to your child did not meet your expectations and for this I apologise.

To better understand why this may have occurred I would very much like to review your child’s presentation. If you feel comfortable please make contact with our Patient Liaison team to provide your contact details via: SWfeedback@health.wa.gov.au or call us on 08 9722 1521.

I do hope your child’s knee injury has improved.

Kind regards,

Amber Hargans
