"Kidney stones"

About: Bentley Hospital / Operating Theatre & Recovery Royal Perth Hospital / Renal (Nephrology) & Urology & Endocrine Medicine & Ward 6A/6B/6C

(as the patient),

I had been dealing with kidney stones for the last 3 months, when I first went down to Royal Perth, I was told the stone was getting lasered. I ended up with a JJ stent and 2 months of severe pain. I went down to Bentley health service recently to finally get the stone lasered and a temporary stent put in and I thought everything was over and it was fine. Turns out, as I understand it, they left another kidney stone in my kidney on purpose without informing me or giving me any kind of plan for when this one tries to pass, I recently was in hospital again because of this and I’ve been told I can’t get surgery until a month’s time! I’m not currently allowed to work which means I am in severe financial hardship and my mental state has gone downhill. In my opinion, this not good enough. I feel I deserve to have this fixed ASAP! I feel I shouldn’t have to live with this when I wasn’t told about it in the first place!

Dear violetrc97,

Thank you for reaching out and raising issues with the treatment you are receiving for kidney stones. I am indeed sorry to hear of the difficulties you describe and for any distress caused by your experience. The matters you have raised are important and I am concerned if there are clinical issues that need addressing within the Royal Perth Bentley Group (RPBG).

I am keen to better understand your clinical journey to ensure the treatment and services you are receiving are both clinically appropriate and in your best interests. To allow me to arrange a review of your care and circumstances I invite you to provide further details to staff in the RPBG’s Consumer Engagement Unit via RPBG.Feedback@health.wa.gov.au or on (08) 9224 1638. They will ensure your concerns are managed appropriately and in a timely manner.

I wish you well with your treatment and recovery.

Kind regards

Dr Lesley Bennett

Executive Director
