"Amazing nurse"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus

(as a parent/guardian),

My adult daughter needed to have a breast biopsy after finding a lump. It was her first time having to have any type of female procedure done. We went into the hospital ultrasound department and waited for her name to be called. As soon as Dodo opened the door and called my daughters name there was a feeling of comfort. She beckoned me to come through and be with my daughter during the procedure and I am glad I did. She had hands down the most caring and comforting bedside manner in a hospital I have witnessed. She explained the whole procedure to my daughter in easy to understand terminology - even mimicking the sound the biopsy needle would make which helped my daughter relax. During the procedure she kept stroking my daughters arm and making general chitchat to help distract her from what was happening.

Knowing my daughter isn't one for affection from people she doesn't know I asked her as we were leaving if Dodo stroking her arm had made her feel uncomfortable at all and she said no. She said at first it was strange but then really comforting - she was able to relax and not focus on what was happening.
Dodo, thankfully for us you never went through with teaching as you really are an amazing nurse and Kalgoorlie will be losing a treasure when you leave on your travels. Thankyou for being the nurse for my daughter today.

Dear Gratefulness,

Thanks for your post. I agree Dodo is the epitome of a compassionate and patient focused nurse that strives to ensure that her patients feel comfortable and secure in spite of the procedure that they are facing.

It is great to be able to share this feedback with our team so that they can be reminded of how overwhelming attending our services can be and that patients are very often facing really critical health concerns when they attend. It also shows the impact that a few minutes of kindness can make too.

I hope your daughter is well and wish you and her all the best in the future.

Kindest regards
Alicia
