I received a deceased donor kidney transplant after previously going into kidney failure and dialysis. Through my donor and the care I received throughout from Prince of Wales Public, my life was saved. To respect that I treated covid seriously and received 6 vaccinations prior to contracting covid at a family wedding.
When I sadly tested positive I notified my renal team. Within an hour Kevin from the Community Management Centre was calling me and within 20mins of that, a courier was dropping off a pulse oximeter at my home! They then helped organise 3 days of IV remdesivir at POW Public and continued to check in on me at least twice a day for the next week. In addition they took care of my mom as well who had also contracted covid at the wedding and with whom I was temporarily staying, even though she was outside their health district.
Susan, Phillipa, Bronwyn, Regina and Jonathan (etc!) took incredible care of us and made us feel looked after and safe as well as medically monitored. This team/initiative truly represents NSW Health's 'Elevating the Human Experience' program. Their service saves the use of in-hospital beds without compromising top notch medical and nursing care. They deserve continued and increased funding in my care opinion. My mom and I are so grateful, thank you.
