"Drop off zone"

About: Sale Hospital

(as a service user),

I had my babies at the Sale Hospital nearly a year and a half ago and when we were there, because of covid they’d changed the pick-up and drop-off zone of the hospital. Now the drop-off zones are actually disabled parks. I asked the hospital and they said you can park in them for dropping off or picking someone up, but I don’t feel comfortable with that. I feel morally obligated not to park in a disabled spot when I’m not disabled.

Recently, I was sitting there outside waiting to pick someone up after their surgery. I was parked outside under the tree in the grass out of the way. When I was sitting waiting outside, 4 cars were parked near entrance picking up people. There was someone was in wheelchair waiting to be picked up then a taxi came along as well so there were cars everywhere.

I’ve been told because of covid and all that they started locking the back door where there is all this parking. Maybe the hospital could please look at opening the back door again now that covid isn’t as much of an issue as it was.

My experience at the Sale Hospital was mostly good. But the parking thing was the big deal. I think feedback is good and it can make the hospital better for everyone.

Thank you for your feedback,

My name is Mark Dykgraaf (CEO). Parking is always a challenge during the high volume periods of the day. We have recently changed the parking out the front of the hospital so that there are 12 more designated visitor parking spots. I share your discomfort in parking, even briefly, in a designated disabled parking zone. We will review whether designated pick up spots are possible.

We have at this time decided that we won't be opening the other entrances to the hospital for security and safety reasons. Having one primary entrance provides a more secure environment for everyone including staff and patients.

However, we will be opening the door directly into the Breast Screen reception when the service is operating.

Thank you again for taking the time to write to us.
