"FBC birth"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Antenatal Clinic, Birth Suite, Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit, Wards 3B, 3C, 3D, 3DO, Visiting Midwife Service

(as the patient),

I couldn’t be more grateful for the amazing care I received at the Family Birthing Centre at Fiona Stanley Hospital. It was my second time going through the FBC, having previously received fantastic care a few years ago.

I could not fault the care I received from the FBC team during my pregnancy, birth and postnatal period. My midwives, Phoebe and Lucy, were absolutely phenomenal throughout the entire process. They were professional, compassionate, kind and always took the time to explain the evidence behind their advice, whilst also taking my personal values into account when making their recommendations.

Phoebe and Lucy were both so calm during our labour and birth, even when an unexpected complication arose. While I wasn’t truly aware of it in the moment, looking back on the experience, I realise that they quickly and calmly took the necessary actions to prioritise our baby’s safety and health, while also expertly maintaining a calm and beautiful birthing environment. As a result, while I was aware of the complication, I felt entirely calm, safe and supported during my labour and was able to safely birth a healthy baby boy.

The postnatal care I received both on the ward and at home was also amazing and again, I was incredibly grateful to Phoebe for the care she provided. The birth of my son was an incredibly empowering and positive experience that I attribute to the care I received in the Family Birth Centre from Phoebe and Lucy.

Dear sambafj93,

What a lovely Care Opinion you have posted. Your gratitude is so genuine and clearly articulated, and we are so grateful that you were able to take some of your time during what I know is a very busy period for you - with a newborn and toddler.

I have discussed your post with the Coordinator of Nursing and Midwifery, as well as the Directors of that service, and they all echo my sentiments. They will be sure to touch base with Phoebe and Lucy to ensure they are also aware of the impact they had on you and your experience.

I hope you are enjoying this very special time with your new baby boy and thank you again for sharing your experience.

Regards,

Neil Doverty
