Over the past week I have been attended to by the Collie Hospital Emergency Staff, treating an infection near my elbow that had flared up over the recent WA long weekend.
All the staff have been wonderful, however the senior nurse named Beth (Registered is I think the level) who treated me deserves special mention. Calm, extremely thorough, marshalled the team around her with aplomb, ordered a precautionary Xray and prescribed antibiotic. My Doctor could not have done better. Beth followed up supervision of progress over the next week.
Beth wanted to see me again on a Saturday at 2pm, but after waiting 45 minutes, it was clear to me that the section was overloaded with new cases coming in. As my case was really a final check, I resolved to withdraw (apologising with Sandra on the front desk). I monitored the affected site and returned to the Hospital on the Sunday. ER was again busy, but Beth called me in and examined the wound again, satisfying herself things were progressing well.
Beth explained that blood tests taken at the initial visit revealed I had developed a condition where penicillin was now ineffective for me, and that I had experienced a Golden staph infection. She then prescribed a further 5-day antibiotic to ensure a complete healing.
I cannot praise the Hospital Staff enough and in particular Nurse Beth Eyre.
Sincerely
