"ER visit in extreme pain"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Went to a local hospital recently. Immediately they put me in a cubical.. great care...I cant lift my head with severe arm pain, neck pain and was given pain injection. Told by Doctor that they wont mess around with me, and to go immediately to Fiona Stanley ER. I had to drive myself....my friend came to help god bless them. They gave me a letter for an MRI to be done said it was urgent.

FS hospital I waited for 3 hours, told by a doctor after showing them an MRI from 2 years ago which shows cervical injuries. That doctor said no to an MRI. Its not an emergency despite already being assessed by a doctor in the initial hospital and this doctor was talking through a perspective pane of plastic. I felt the unmanageable pain was evident. My head on the desk as I couldn't hold it up.... can't hold my head up or sit up more than a few minutes tears streaming down my face head on the counter. The doctor said an x-ray. I said that's rubbish in my old MRI I had given them from 2 years ago I had disc damage not bone damage. I was told go sit down wait.

The pain killer from the initial hospital, which only took the edge off, started to wear off. I requested pain meds. Told to watch for nurses and flag them down. They would put request in board. 1 hour later beside myself with pain two nurses appeared. Called my name looked at me turned and walked away...I believe they were handing out Panadol to others. Pain too much by then and i had to go home. A friend drove me home in the morning.

Dear songthrushfk57,

I am sorry for the wait you recently experienced in our Emergency Department (ED), and that you are not happy with the care you received. It sounds like you were in a great deal of pain. I would like to properly investigate what happened when you attended our ED, but require your details to do so.

As such, may I ask that you contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service on 6152 4013 or FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au with your details. This will help us to investigate your visit and identify any areas where we can improve the care we provide.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards,

Neil Doverty.
