We birthed our baby at the KEMH Family Birth Centre and honestly could not be happier with our decision to go there!
From the moment we did the tour early in pregnancy we knew this was the place for us. The model of care just clicked with us instantly.
The building separate from the main hospital, the homely feel and non medicalised setting made us feel so comfortable.Being close to the main hospital meant that we felt totally safe 'in case' but we were separated from all the busy-ness of the hospital. This was a lovely feature of our prenatal visits, though during labour it turned out to be even more important. We practiced hypnobirthing so having a calm environment where I felt safe and comfortable was absolutely paramount.
We did have to make a few trips into the main hospital prior to birthing and while the care couldn't be faulted, it felt like a hospital and not somewhere I would ideally choose to have my baby.
We had the most wonderful relationship with our midwife Georgia who perfectly balanced calm, professional and upbeat. I felt so calm and secure in her care. Having one midwife as your primary carer throughout pregnancy, during birth and during the home visits was great - I can't speak highly enough about this model of care. We were blessed with an absolutely perfect birth and I am so thankful to the KEMH birth centre and its wonderful staff for this. We utilised the spacious birth pool which was such a relaxing way Given our complication free birth, the recovery was a breeze and we got to take our beautiful baby home just hours after she was born and enjoy her sweet newness in the comfort of our home.
