"Food quality and paying for services not being provided"

About: Baptcare Northaven Community

(as a relative),

My parent, in their late 80s, has recently gone into care, in that time I feel it’s just been awful.

I know they are apparently short staffed but I believe you pay good money for good care so l would think.

I believe the meals are shocking and cold, recently my parent got breakfast at 10.30 and couldn’t buzz because they couldn’t reach the buzzer as they also needed to go to the toilet.

I understand you are supposed to get choice of 2 meals for lunch and tea, half the time they just give my parent a meal that they don't even like and out of many days of care so far has only had 2 hot meals the rest have had to go back and be reheated.

1 of their meals was a hot dog in a roll with coleslaw and mustard and this week they got baked beans with potatoes beans and carrot for tea. They didn’t eat that night because they didn’t like it and doesn’t like to complain.

My parent has trouble swallowing and has to have soft easy eat meals but I feel all residents should be having a good protein diet with lots of veggies and not potato out of a packet.

We have been told they are going to get a dietitian and a chef so will wait and see if that happens.

I understand we are paying for a chef and good quality meals but only have a cook and I feel very average meals.

Most residents l have spoken to that don’t have dementia say the same the meals are not that good and nutritious.

We also are paying for hairdresser that they don’t have , ph my parent has their own , paper my parent buys their own , cooked breakfast weekly which they haven't had only offered today after l asked about it, and WiFi my parent wouldn’t even know what it is.

We don’t mind paying for services they get but all these other services your apparently supposed to get and not need to be addressed or even itemised on your account

Last week a physiotherapist came from Melb to see residents all they did with my parent was talk for about 5min and left so didn’t discuss any exercises or nothing and told see you in 3 weeks

Most of the staff are really good but have way to many residents to look after to staff on duty many are working double shifts to cover

Where is the Quality Of Care & Compassion that should be given to all residents
