I was lucky enough to receive continuity of care through the MGP Program for the duration of my pregnancy and postpartum care. Having a known midwife throughout my care was extremely positive for both my husband and I. Having a team of known midwives who we could continually rely on that were intimate with my medical history gave us confidence and continued support. We felt more confident to ask questions and explore our options really increasing the feeling of control over our journey due to the simplicity of getting to build a relationship with our known midwife over our antenatal appointments.
I felt informed every step of the way and as my pregnancy approached post dates I was able to work alongside my midwife to plan a positive induction that was informed and considered my individual medical history and birth preferences. During my labour and delivery I felt I had someone I could rely upon to support and advocate for me that was intimate with my wishes and medical history. This trust was grown and nurtured throughout all of my antenatal visits where we discussed birth preferences and different birth pathways. This meant that in a vulnerable time I could put full trust in my midwife and focus on my labour and delivery.
I am forever grateful for the support, attention to detail and commitment of my known midwife, she truly made all the difference in my ante and postnatal care. After I was discharged from hospital I received home visits from the midwife team, having the knowledge and care for those first few days when you are figuring things out and not having to leave the comfort of your own home is wonderful and extremely convenient. The midwives were able to pinpoint any specific needs we had and refer us to further services such as the breastfeeding centre etc. I will be seeking out the same model of care for subsequent pregnancies when the time comes and would recommend this service. Thank you to all of the MGP Midwives, I think you are angels!
