Early in the morning recently I took my 8 yo to the Paeds ED for the third time for severe croup.
The experience could not have been smoother or more calm - which is a feat with a very unwell little boy who is panicking because he can't breathe. This has been our experience every presentation.
The staff are clearly highly skilled professionally, but also, and perhaps more importantly, with their communication skills - every single person I came into contact with spoke with kindness, compassion and respect, not only to me, to my child, but also, I observed, to each other.
They were warm, friendly, caring and polite, took the time to make sure I understood what was happening and the rationale behind the plans and treatment, but also took the time to establish rapport with my son. I was so impressed, and can't thank them enough. I don't remember all of the names, but I think it was Mel at triage, Ariya the first doc and Alistair the first nurse, then after shift change the second docs Mark and Ella, and the nurse who took over from Alistair - I am so sorry I can't remember your name, but all of you collectively are a fabulous team.
Thank you so very much - you are all amazing at your jobs and appreciated!
