"Moving into residential care"

About: Residential Aged Care at Apollo Bay

(as a service user),

My family call me a social butterfly - before I became unwell I was able to look after myself, I was playing golf + bowls. It was a real shock to realise that I couldn't look after myself at home. I have been in GORH on and off for a couple of years - using respite + then permanent care. I was able to get my strength up during my stay and was then able to go home.

This was great but now I am no longer able to look after myself at home. GORH (LPW) looks after me very well. I am close to some of my family and all my friends - I am still able to go out and socialise. I attend exercises at the facility + discussion groups + movie nights. The food is like a restaurant and the staff are amazing. I have many connections here - my sister-in-law is a resident and other residents I have known all my life. I enjoy being local - It is not home- however it is the next best thing. PS I am in the same room as my mother was in.
