"Cleanliness of the hospital"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus

(as a relative),

A family member was a patient at the hospital and it seemed to me there had been the same rubbish on the floor for over four days. This includes Band-Aid wrappers and pill containers. The cleaner came in and I feel they might as well not bothered for the effort I believe they put in. My family member and other ward patients said the bathroom has not been cleaned and neither has the areas around their beds. I have heard there are so many people apparently picking up infections from the Kalgoorlie Hospital and I think the standard of cleaning is probably not helping. I recall even the glass looks like it is getting cleaned with soaking wet cloths. I feel it is disgusting to think ill people are seemingly prone to get germs at a place they should be getting better. In my opinion, the standards need to be better.

Dear importerfq85

Thank you for sharing your experience as a visitor to Kalgoorlie Health Campus. Without your feedback, we miss opportunities to improve.

I have shared your story with the Acting Operations Manager, Laura Dwyer. Laura has followed up with the Patient Services Coordinator to inspect the cleaning on the wards.

Hospitals are a place where people come for care when they are sick and particularly at this time of year there are increased cases of colds and influenza, as well as Covid-19 still having a presence in our community. We encourage everyone to maintain good hand hygiene and also to participate in the Free Influenza Vaccine Program in May and June which finishes this coming Friday 30 June 2023.

If you wish to share any further information, please feel free to contact Laura via email Laura.Dwyer@health.wa.gov.au or call 9080 5817.

Kind regards

Peter Tredinnick
