"Waiting times"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

I feel that 3 hours waiting with a lung/prostrate and pituitary gland cancer patient who is vomiting blood in emergency is totally unacceptable!! Put into waiting room with people all around them with influenza. This I feel is inadequate care by the hospital considering the patient even has a card from their oncologist stating they need to be seen as quickly as possible due to them being a cancer patient.

Dear lionzd99,

I am very sorry your relative endured such a difficult wait in ED. It is not what the team in ED would want your relative to experience.

Whilst the ED team makes every effort to ensure patients are assessed and reviewed in a timely manner, demand for ED services has been very high lately and the ability to stream patients through the department becomes compromised.

The ED team will always consider how best to prioritise patients based on the level of acuity across the department. This means that on occasion, patients like your relative might need to be prioritised differently.

Notwithstanding the above, I trust your relative has received the right level of care to support their cancer treatment going forward.

Please apologise to your relative on our behalf.

Regards

Just thought I would follow up to see if you required anything further from your complaint above.

All the very best.
