A huge thank you to the staff I saw at Broome Health Campus Emergency Department. While on holidays recently, I developed a gum infection that was giving excruciating pain. After unsuccessfully trying over the counter medication, a visit to Broome ED was made.
From the time I met triage nurse Jodie onwards, every staff member I saw was helpful, professional and understanding. Dr Genevieve took control and I felt was the epitome of professionalism and thoroughness. She tried several different analgesics before settling on the one that worked and was safe. During my visit, the nursing staff would frequently visit me, go over my situation and check how I was going. I felt that such genuine care and concern is a credit to all the staff.
The other thing I noticed was that I felt every patient who came into ED was treated with the same respect, empathy and professionalism. Unfortunately I am unable to remember the names of all the staff who cared for me but hopefully they will know who they are and know how much I appreciate what they have done.
As a former health employee in corporate services, this experience as a total stranger reinforces my view that those delivering face to face patient care are the lifeblood and heroes of the health service and unfortunately, do not receive the public credit I feel they so often deserve. Thank you to you all.
