Good morning
Recently, I attended BCH Wonthaggi to undertake a colonoscopy in day-theatre. Definitely not the sort of day you would look forward to on the calendar, but nonetheless necessary.
As I walked in to the main entrance of the new building, a gentleman behind the counter greeted me with my name and directed me to the 2nd floor. I’m not sure how he knew me, but it was a nice touch. On the 2nd floor, a friendly and courteous staff member quickly processed my admission and I was led through to the pre-op waiting area. Once again I was attended to, by friendly and courteous staff members (including the nursing staff on placement) who finalized the paperwork and took basic obs. I was then given the gown of vulnerability to change into, followed with the offer of a warm blanket.
When my lucky number was called, I was taken to a holding area where the nursing staff (including staff on placement) and the wonderful caring surgeon, had their quick chat with me. An IV was placed, a bit of banter with the kindest and friendliest anesthetist I have ever met, and then taken into theatre. I felt very safe and secure as I drifted off. After the procedure, I woke in the recovery area where I again received courteous and friendly care. I was offered all the comforts necessary to make my recovery quick and easy and before I knew it, I was on my way home.
In these times, people are very quick to complain, and very rarely show appreciation.
I would like to acknowledge and thank all the people that made my day, a positive one.
This includes the people who envisioned the new building, the leaders who developed the plans and processes, the managers who maintain the standards and most of all, the staff who went above and beyond. We are very fortunate to have this level of care in our community.
Thank you one and all. I truly appreciate your efforts.
Kind regards
