"Post day-stay care"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Surgical Ward

(as the patient),

I was told because of my age I needed a pre-op ECG. This was not performed.

After having a Transrectal Ultrasound Guided Prostate Biopsy I was discharged without passing urine before leaving, as I was advised I would need to do.

The procedure specific information sheet, page 2, read as if you will be given antibiotics for a few days around the time of the procedure.

Once I arrived home I realised the follow-up appointment sheet had the wrong patient sticker on it.

I was expecting a follow-up call from the nurse that evening and didn't get one.

I contacted day-stay the next day and was informed my paperwork was completed as if I had passed urine at discharge, and that a call back would occur within 2-3 days. This is not advised on the follow up paperwork.

Overall, my care was generally good but felt I needed to give this feedback.

Dear julyrs34

I'm sorry to hear that your pre and post procedure information and discharge was not following the process you were given. I do hope that you have now fully recovered.

In order to follow up your individual case, I would be happy for you to contact me via phone on 0436 279 568 or email Karen.Horsley@health.wa.gov.au to discuss further.

Thank you for providing this feedback as this ensures we correct our processes.

Yours sincerely

Karen Horsley

Dear julyrs34

I'm more than happy to hear from you when you return.

I am, however, on leave during September. You can contact Jenny Obyrne who will be covering my role on either Jennifer.Obyrne@health.wa.gov.au or 97221421 during September or alternatively wait until I return in October.

Either way, we will be looking forward to following up and ensuring that the concerns you raised are rectified to prevent further issues occurring.

Thanks

Karen Horsley
