(as the patient),

I am elderly and generally very fit. I like to run 5km most days. On the weekend I did a very strenuous job in our yard. At 4:00am I woke with chest pains. Every deep breath was very painful. The next night it was so bad that I would not sleep, so my wife drove me to the Esperance Hospital Emergency Dept. 

The care I received was from the two nurses (Donna and Rachel) and the doctor (Dr Genevieve). They were all so thorough and careful as they assessed my problem and did a range of tests. At about 7:00am they were replaced by new nurses and Doctor who were just as meticulous and caring.

They even moved me into a room that had a very comfortable bed for me to rest and even sleep in while they continued to asses my situation and follow up treatment before I went home at Mid-day. My heart fibrillation had subsided greatly in that time. We thank God for these dedicated people

Reading stories like yours just makes us appreciate, even more, the wonderful team of staff that we have at the Esperance Hospital. We have shared your story with Donna, Rachel, Dr Genevieve and the ED staff and it really does make a difference, especially when working in an area such as ED, it can often be busy and stressful so by reading your story staff will be reminded that their dedication doesn’t go unnoticed.

I hope that you are back in good health and even if not back to running yet, that you are able to enjoy some good brisk walks in our beautiful town. take care and thank you for sharing your story.
