"Not being listened to"

About: Katanning Health Service / Emergency Department Katanning Health Service / General Ward

(as the patient),

I don’t ask for help very often anymore as I feel I have been knocked back more times than I’ve received help, and am fed up with not being listened to.

I presented to ED with endometrial bleeding, a lump in my throat that was leaking pus & blood, high bp, lack of sleep - 17 hours over 8 days & pain in my lung. Doctor immediately jumped on what seemed to be the 2 easy symptoms - high bp & lack of sleep n gave me pills that knocked me out.

I was admitted but, in my opinion, after not having been listened to about the other 3 things  previously mentioned I discharged myself & returned home. Nursing staff I saw were lovely & did what they could but I felt the Doctor needs to listen to patient. I saw social working whilst in hospital who promised to email that evening but by the following evening & I hadn’t heard from them either. I expressed my concerns to one of the nurses in hospital; as I understood it they were made fully aware of the situation but basically a nurses hands are tied.

I would like to thank all nursing staff & kitchen staff that looked after me on the  days I was an in patient. Based on my experience, I will not return as I feel this is not the 1st time Doctors have fobbed me off, though I believe it will be the last.

I would also urge you to seek the advice of Health Direct, your GP or attend our emergency department if you are acutely unwell.
