"Wish I’d Had A Carer"

About: Royal Perth Hospital

(as the patient),

I’d had foot surgery, but didn’t qualify for a carer.

It’s left me alone, isolated and with no one in my life.

Dear camelopardalisjw98,

I was saddened to read that you felt alone and isolated on returning home from Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) after surgery, and acknowledge the distress this is causing you. Attending hospital for surgery can be a worrying time and I am very sorry to hear that on discharge you did not feel supported.

While it is difficult to comment on your situation without knowing your details or which RPH surgical specialty you are under, I would like to ensure you are receiving the appropriate post-surgery follow up by the medical and nursing teams. Please contact the Consumer Engagement Unit on 9224 1637, Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm or via email: rpbg.feedback@health.wa.gov.au so they may raise any issues or concerns for you directly with your treating team.

I would also encourage you to get in touch with your General Practitioner who can review your healthcare needs, and if appropriate, refer you for suitable community support while you are recovering.

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion, I wish you all the best in your recovery.

Kind regards

Dr Eva Denholm

A/Executive Director
