"Excellent care and support from the Breastfeeding Centre"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital

(as the patient),

I recently gave birth to my first child under the care of CMP South. I had a homebirth which was incredible and empowering. After my daughter was born, we struggled to get a good latch and my CMP midwife suggested additional support from the breastfeeding centre.

I was able to hire a pump from KEMH for a month which was so helpful to maintain my supply while we worked on our latch. During this time, I had three consultations with Jo from the breastfeeding centre, who was so helpful in our breastfeeding journey.  Before our first consult I was feeling stressed about my daughter's weight gain and uncertain that we would ever establish a positive breastfeeding relationship. As soon as we saw Jo, I felt reassured that we would get on track. Jo helped me with my latch technique and made me and my husband feel competent as new parents.

If I hadn't have had these consults with Jo, I may have given up entirely on breastfeeding as it was really impacting my mental health at the time. I am now confidently breastfeeding and my daughter has put on lots of weight. I couldn't have done it without Jo and I am so glad I stuck at it,  as I love breastfeeding now!

Jo provided exceptional care and her support was integral to us developing confidence as new parents.

Dear Skullnflames.

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. It is absolutely delightful to hear how empowered you felt at having a homebirth under the care of the Community Midwifery program (CMP), and equally delightful to see how you were able to access the assistance you needed into your breastfeeding journey.

It is the aim of the Women & Newborn Health Service to provide the best possible care and support at all times to each and every one of our patients. I am so pleased to hear that you were able to engage fully with Jo at the Breastfeeding Centre of WA and feel supported in establishing such a rewarding breastfeeding relationship with your daughter.

I will pass on your very kind words about Jo’s exceptional care, and I am sure she will be incredibly pleased to hear such feedback.

I hope your daughter continues to thrive whilst breastfeeding, and that you and your family enjoy your time together.

Kind regards,

Jon Day
