"My child's waiting time"

About: Yarrawonga Hospital / Urgent Care Centre

(as a parent/guardian),

My baby attended yarrawonga hospital recently, with a temperature and other symptoms and we were told to wait outside for a minimum of four hours!

Yeah I get you’s do get busy and things but my baby is less than 12 months old and needed to be seen yet was left outside in the freezing cold!

This isn’t the first negative thing to happen, on another occasion my toddler split their head open and they were made to have a COVID test before being let inside! Absolutely disgusting if you ask me!

Dear irregularityxw66

I am Frank Evans, the Interim Chief Executive Officer at Yarrawonga Health.

We are very sorry to learn of your experiences with us and we want to assure that what have described is not the standard of care that we are striving to provide. We hope your baby is okay and please let me know if there is anything we can do to help.

Your feedback is very important to us and it has been shared with our staff so that we can work to ensure that we make the improvements required to prevent anything similar happening in the future.

We are looking closely at our waiting times in our Urgent Care Centre in order to make changes to reduce the time our patients are waiting.

One of the things we are doing is partnering with the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department, the VVED. The VVED enables people to access highly qualified emergency specialist staff who would usually only be available to people in the city or in major regional towns.

We have set up a booth in our Urgent Care Centre where we can assist people to access the service. The service can also be accessed from your home through this web address: www.vved.org.au.

If there is anything we can do to assist you or your baby please let me know and if you would like to contact me for any reason you can reach me at frank.evans@yh.org.au or by phone on 03 5743 8130.

With my best regards,

Frank
