My sibling is severely disabled and requires 24/7 support to maintain their quality of life. On a recent weekend, they had a swollen ankle and was uncomfortable when mobilising. Unfortunately, they could not tell us what was wrong, so their carers brought my sibling to the Armadale emergency department for evaluation.
After an X-ray, the Doctors did not advise of a fracture, to continue with Panadol and Ibuprofen. The following Monday, the carers brought my sibling to the GP, who identified a transverse fracture to the lateral malleolus on the X-ray.
We are disappointed that the fracture wasn't recognised after the X-ray. Plus, we are upset that this caused my sibling to go through extra, unnecessary pain. After this misdiagnosis, we felt the need to give feedback in the hopes that this does not happen again. Sincerely written by my sibling's concerned family and on behalf of the carers.
