"My fall at work and my stay in hospital"

About: Grafton Base Hospital / Accident & emergency Grafton Base Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

Tripped over at work(school) had a compound fracture of left forearm with a nasty piece sticking out. Amazing ambos took me to emergency.

The nurses and doctors were amazing, I had an ex ray, cleaned up and in theatre by 1.15 p.m. Woke up with family by my side. Later got moved to a single room as a patient was being a bit loud and demanding. Surgeon came and saw me early next morning and told all was good and I could go home and was to see him in two weeks.

Daughter in-law took me to fracture clinic a few days later and had the back slab taken off as it had felt like it was rubbing. Pippa cleaned up and Angela put another back slab on. Back again in another couple of days with another clean up. But looking so good now and another back slab. I was so amazed at how much the swelling was reducing over this short period. Although I did everything I was supposed to do.

Recently back for plaster off and cleanup and sutures removed, redressed with instructions from Pippa for wound care and exercises from Angela for physio. Back in four weeks for ex ray and follow up.

I couldn’t of been more happy with the care I received from nurses, doctors and staff at this time. I was the first time I have anything so bad happen to me and I don’t like needles at all.
