When I was first told I was going to be part of the Midwifery Group Practice program, I wasn’t sure what it involved and how it would impact my pregnancy journey. I now understand how incredibly fortunate I was to be a part of this group and be able to build a relationship with my midwife.
Having anxiety around childbirth, the ability to receive consistent care from a known midwife meant that I could discuss my feelings and worries and know that the midwife at my birth would be aware of them. I developed a huge amount of trust in my midwife, and when things changed (I ended up with preeclampsia which led to an induction at 37 weeks) my midwife talked me through what it would mean for me and my baby.
Even with all these unexpected changes, I feel that I had a positive birth experience - which I attribute to being part of the Midwifery Grouo Practice and having a known midwife.
Would love to see this model of care available to more parents.
