I would like to request an improvement to the booking service in relation to my child's appointments with WACHS specialists. I find the OT and paediatrician very helpful, but when they tell me we will have a review in 1 month or 6 months or tell my kid that they will be there to support them and then no-one rebooks a follow-up appointment, we are left alone, sometimes without medication or mental health follow-ups or current health care plans.
I feel this is a common problem in regional/remote areas such as the Kimberley and Broome. We are not given information about how to rebook an appointment if forgotten. When I ask the receptionist at the clinic we go to, they tell me it is not their job and is done by a booking service. When I ring the hospital and get through to someone, they say they cannot book my child in for an appointment because they do not have access to the next months' clinic roster (which is just over 2 weeks away).
I have once missed an appointment because I was informed less than 24 hours before the appointment and did not have time to make arrangements for work. I feel there must be a better way for the Health Care specialist to add a future booking request into the system at the end of all paediatric appointments.
