"My third pregnancy journey"

About: Margaret River Hospital / Maternity Department

(as the patient),

My story about trust.

Where two of pregnancy and birth was easy and like a dream. The third one definitely had a story. Story of people behind my journey.

I didn’t worry at all, I was thinking everything will be easy and smooth. But God has his plan and a baby choose his way, sometimes it’s completely different than we want. And here comes accepting and trust. Trust to people which is not your family… trust…

On 33 weeks ultrasound scan the legs of a baby was a bit shorter, later I started loosing the weight, the belly didn’t grow much. I had to do more scan, which showed the belly and all the rest didn’t grow much either. Calls, worries, not sleeping, stressing what’s going on. Meeting doctors, speaks with midwifes about next step and what to do next … oh. Not easy…  Regular CTG, one more scan and call “we couldn’t wait anymore let’s do planning induction for two days time, please come in tomorrow  afternoon to prepare yourself” at the moment my doctor was away to explain to me what’s going on. Just midwife Melony who was with me on the phone all the time, who explained to me everything and made me stay calm.

The next day we came to the hospital with my husband and first concern was to see a doctor for a chat first. Doctor Jim was so lovely, patient, explaining everything for a few times. The couple things which he and doctor Lauren was concerned about baby’s health and border line of blood circulation to the brain. Thanks God they gave us call yesterday and pushed us to came to hospital the following day. During the night I started contracting, called my husband who went home for a night, after I told to midwife what’s something is happening. A couple of hours later I moved to the birth room, after changed clothes and painful contractions midwife wanted to check baby’s heart rate and she couldn’t find it, she calls emergency and all midwifes, after they put me to the bed, turned me around like a doll, in couple of minutes they found heart rate at 85, straight away  they broke my water which helps to put heart rate back on normal. After that I gave birth around 20 minutes later. My baby boy was born, the staff stimulated him and gave him back to me. He was fine and beautiful. My son. My sonshine. My boy, strong and powerful!

He born with twice cord on his neck and big knot on it.  He is super hero. But the most super heroes for me definitely the medical staff. Before birth, on a time of birth and after. Just to trust… trust to people, professionals and their work, trust to life what’s everything will be fine.

I'm happy and grateful!  No words to explain my feelings and appreciation to all of them.

Dear betajs85,

Thankyou for taking the time to tell your story and to provide your feedback for both Melony and the Margaret River MGP, and the Bunbury Hospital maternity and medical staff. It sounds like you had quite the journey throughout your pregnancy, labour and birth. It sounds like there were a number of incredibly stressful moments for both you and your family.

We are so glad to hear that you felt supported, safe and well cared for despite the numerous challenges you encountered, and that your beautiful baby boy came out healthy and well!

I have passed on your feedback to Melony, the Margaret River MGP and to the staff at Bunbury Maternity. We wish you and your family all the best going forward, and hope you are settling into life with your newest addition to the family well.

Warm regards,
Amy Gumbrell
