My young child presented to Traralgon hospital via ambulance recently with severe abdominal pain/vomiting/temps. Has a hx of intussusception. The ambulance gave them Fentanyl which only eased their pain as they were screaming in agony as ambulance arrived. I felt the treating emergency nurse was so rude and uncaring, I recall they threw an icypole at my child, woke my child from a deep sleep and demanded they drink something or they will get a needle. My child was shaking in fear of the thought of getting a needle. I feel this nurse should not be working with children and seemingly threatening them with needles the way I believe this nurse did.
We were told that we would have to then spend the night in the waiting room, with numerous intoxicated people. Not a nice place for a young child to have to spend the night.
We were discharged and told to give my child panadol, which doesn’t touch their pain. I feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall trying to tell drs that my child is constantly sick with abdo pain/vomiting and has had admissions before due to this. Their pain is still ongoing with their crying/vomiting, I’ve lost hope in taking them to hospital as I feel nothing gets done. This is no way for a child to live. Why can’t the Drs do something so my child can live a normal life?
