"Miscarriage 10 weeks"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

At 10 weeks pregnant I began miscarrying. I was under a private obstetrican who failed to call me back. I called healthdirect who advised with any miscarriage to check in with medical help. I presented to King Eddies in significant pain. I could barely sit, walk, laugh or cough without being brought to tears. I had not started bleeding but very lightly had spotting. We hadn’t even sat down to be triaged and the nurse was evaluating my pain and organised medication to make me comfortable. She could visibly see me holding my stomach and got me a heat pack without even asking.

The care right from triage to seeing the obstetrician was honestly better than any service I’ve received privately. I was given a cervical examination to ensure there was no blockages and was sent home with pain relief to manage at home.

The next morning my body had started to properly process my miscarriage. I honestly believe because my pain was treated and my mind knew I was okay (after I was reviewed by an obstetrician) my body was able to relax and begin processing the way it should be. At a time where I felt so lost, alone (my husband is FIFO) and frightened the staff in the ED department at king eddies were phenomenal. I felt safe, extremely well looked after and was treated with kindness and respect for my individual circumstance.

I would love to pass on my thanks and appreciation to all staff working that night. It might be part of their normal duties but to me it was more than that. Im incredibly grateful for the care I was given and have since spoken so highly of the hospital and its staff. There is not enough recognition of the dedication and hard work you put in to every patient in your hospital. From the bottom of our hearts thank you for being such amazing people!

Dear authenticsf98,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us, especially during what must be a very difficult time for you and your husband. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.

I am so pleased to hear how well cared for and supported you felt during your presentation to the Emergency Centre (EC) at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) – it is a real testament to the care and compassion our EC staff provide. I will be sure to pass on your very kind words of appreciation to the team in EC.

Take care,

Delaney
