"Staff behaviour"

About: Northam Health Service / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

Was in Northam ED recently where there was an injured police officer. Whilst the nurse, I believe, obviously didn’t think anyone was listening I recall they said that they are sick of the police bringing their s**t into ED. I am absolutely disgusted that a health care professional would speak about another emergency services person in that way, and am unsure where they thought the police should go with their ‘s**t’. As I was leaving the injured police officer was lying on the floor in a bay which I feel is also unacceptable.

So very disappointed that an officer or anyone for that matter is treated that way.

Dear funnyxm63,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us about your experience at Northam Hospital Emergency Department.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the experience you had while in the Emergency Department. I was very concerned to hear of the comment you overheard in relation to a police officer’s presentation. We are very conscious of the vital role that police officers play in providing essential emergency services, and I was very disappointed to think that one of our staff would make such a comment. I was also very concerned to hear of a patient lying on the floor and will review this with the team working in the Emergency Department.

We always work to provide the best care to the community. Your feedback is taken seriously, and I will investigate this matter further. I would appreciate if you could contact me, Mr Trenton Grieve, Operations Manager for Western Wheatbelt on (08) 9690 1315 to discuss further.

Once again thank you for your valuable feedback.

Regards

Trenton
