"About eating disorders"

About: Perth Children's Hospital / Eating Disorders Program - Clinic K Perth Children's Hospital / Ward 4A - Adolescents

(as a parent/guardian),

I’m very disappointed with the service provided by specialist at Clinic K Perth Children’s Hospital for eating disorder. I did not feel adequate support from psychological and psychiatric teams, even though eating disorder are mental health issues, and psychological support is crucial in battling this disorder.

I feel the lack of support created more problems, and we lost time in this service. In this case, unfortunately, I had to discharge my child from this service even though my child had an unstable physical and mental condition. Additionally, I believe, Ward 4A an incorrect diagnosis and three weeks of painful and unnecessary treatment.

Dear mamabear,

Thank you for sharing your experience at the Eating Disorders Clinic and on Ward 4A in Perth Children’s Hospital. This must have been a distressing experience, and I am very sorry that you and your family did not receive the care and support that you needed.

I would like to look into the issues you raised and assess how we could have better supported you and your family in this situation and also to ensure your experience is both heard and reflected in our future service delivery.

If you are open to this it would be appreciated if you could please contact the Consumer Engagement Service on 08 6456 0032 or by email at CAHSfeedback@health.wa.gov.au.

Should you or your family need urgent mental health support in future, I encourage you to contact CAMHS Crisis Connect on 1800 048 636. This is a free service, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and provides phone and online videocall support for children and young people who are experiencing a mental health crisis.
