"Medication help"

About: Laverton Hospital

(as the patient),

I went to the Laverton hospital recently to get help to get my medication that was in another town. I just wanted to go there and ask if someone could help me to ring the clinic or send an email to the other clinic so I could get my medication.

The staff member just told me straight there no sorry we cant help, right at the front door.

So I just walked off.

I just wanted to come in and share my story

You know some other hospitals you go to they ask and talk to you in a good manner, how can we help you.

I was planning to go home but now staying here till after Christmas.

The staff member just said no sorry cant help you, that's why I walked off and came to the community health centre where I got help.

Hi circinuspx85,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at Laverton Hospital.

Laverton Hospital prides itself on being a health service that is welcoming and willing to support all forms of health enquiries, and I am sincerely sorry that your experience was not one that met this expected standard.

There are two processes used within the community to access medications. One is through the private GP practice when it is available, and the other is utilised afterhours for urgent medications which is coordinated by the nursing staff at the hospital.

I have requested that your feedback is utilised to ensure our staff are aware of the medication supports we have available to the community, and to educate staff on the expectations of holistic health care and effective communications in our service delivery.

Thank you for assisting us to improve our service to better support the community, and to ensure this experience is not had by anyone else seeking access to medications.

Should you need support in the future with your health care needs, I would encourage you to return to our hospital.

If you would like to discuss further, please do not hesitate to contact me on (08) 9080 5771 or via my email Elissa.Stout@health.wa.gov.au

Kind Regards

Elissa Stout
