"My spouse's battle for healthcare with the hospital and others"

About: The Townsville Hospital

(as a carer),

My spouse's health has become a battlefield in what I feel are "doctor wars" between the hospital and private practicioners because the condition they suffer is a "contraversial" diagnosis.

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome was first suggested by an ED doctor at TUH in 2021. Instead of category 1 my spouse was listed as category 3 and made to wait almost a year for pain management which has been of little or no help and only made their condition worse.

North Queensland Persistent Pain Management Services is an adjunct to Townsville University Hospital. Doctors there have "rediagnosed" my spouse with fibromyalgia based on observation only, without ordering baseline testing through scans or referrals to, what I feel is appropriate specialist investigation to confirm or eliminate CRPS or fibromyalgia.

In my opinion, they may as well pulled their diagnosis out of a hat.

My spouse has suffered debilitating pain every day since rolling both their  ankles on rough concrete stairs in 2021. Their feet are never free of pain, by turn icy cold or aflame while the pain and temperature fluctuations have spread to other parts of my spouse's body.

Their application for Disability Support Payment was rejected because their condition is "not reasonably treated and stabilised" while the hospital is seemingly unwilling or unable to treat my spouse's condition or even diagnose them properly.

They have been informed by Centrelink that their medical exemption from mutual obligations is invalid because their condition is "not temporary", in other words, it seems my spouse should be receiving the DSP .

My spouse is trapped in a death zone, a "no man's land" between what I believe to be the arrogant incompetence of the hospital on one side and the cruel indifference of Services Australia on the other.

If subject to mutual obligations, I believe my spouse will be forced to undertake activities which in my opinion, will cause them agonising pain, to risk going into potentially fatal pain shock and to cause emotional and psychological anguish, exacerbating their complex PTSD, driving them to thoughts of suicide and sapping their will to go on living.

While it has been acknowledged in writing on one hand that my spouse has complex psychological needs, I feel it has stonewalled, bullied, belittled and gaslit my spouse to the point of seeking euthanasia.

Appeals to the Office of the Health Ombudsman have been dismissed.
