"The swift and life saving care my Husband received."

About: Swan Hill District Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My husband became very unwell quickly and I took him to the ED. He was triaged immediately and seen by a Dr within minutes. As it happened, he was very ill and needed lifesaving surgery. The surgeon saw him within an hour and he was in surgery with 2.5 hours. He was then transferred out to ICU in Melbourne whilst intubated.

I believe if it was not for the expert, swift care from the medical and surgical team as well as the wonderful, caring nurses, my husband would have passed away as he was about an hour away from the point of no return from organ damage and ultimately, death. I want to thank the whole of the ED team we saw for their swift and expert treatment of my husband and the care and kindness they gave in supporting myself. My gratitude cup is overflowing.

Dear Hellsbells,

Thank you for taking the time to provide such kind feedback - the ED team have been working very hard lately - especially over the busy Christmas and New Year period. It is great to hear that the urgency of your husband's situation was recognised and he received the care required without delay. I hope that he has stabilised and is now recovering nicely. Our gratitude cup is also filling up with some lovely compliments received lately - this makes the time we have spent away from family and friends and at work during the holiday season - well worth it!

Kind regards,

Kath

Dear Hellsbells,

Your story is a wonderful one for the team here in the SHDH Emergency Department. Health care staff love to hear feedback, and when it has a good outcome it is really a great moment that they feel they made a difference to another person's life. Providing care and treatment to patients with a serious health situation is always very stressful and I am so pleased that the diagnosis was made early for your husband and he was able to get the care he needed here at Swan Hill and, in Melbourne, for the more specialised care and recovery.

I feel that your husband's story, as told by you here in this story was truly Connected Care, Best Experience, which is what we strive to achieve for the patients needing care in our community. He was connected to the best place to receive the care he needed, and this gave a good experience.

Wishing your husband a speedy recovery and yourself a wonderful 2024.

Kind Regards

Chloe Keogh

Acting CEO
