"Full hip replacement"

About: Fremantle Hospital and Health Service / Orthopaedic Surgery Department & B7N

(as the patient),

I have suffered from hip problems over the years with Perthes' disease. Ended up in hospital for about 3 years. Treatment at the time was full bed rest, legs in plaster with pulleys on. As a child I would get tangled up by turning over. Thus causing a phobia of being held down. So it had caused me to hold off from operations. All the pain through the years it got worse. Recently I went in to see Dr Omar and only by a cancellation. He advised me that I need a full right hip replacement, which was category 2. A few weeks later I received mail from Fremantle Hospital that my operation was booked in as a public patient. Prior going into hospital, I had blood tests and scans done. All this was booked by the hospital. Didn’t have to do anything. This put my mind at ease. I didn’t have to do any appointments.

I attended Fremantle Hospital as a public patient in the morning. Went to theatre around an hour later and back into recovery room about midday. They had me up and walking the next morning. Discharged from Fremantle Hospital the following day. I would like to say a very big thank you to the anaesthesist for his kind and caring words. To all the nursing staff, a very big thank you for the way you took care of me. To the lovely ladies for the meals, I say thank you. And yes I was very fussy. I appreciate the sandwiches you gave me. To the OT assistants and the PT assistants a very big thank you for getting me moving. The pain management team what a great job. Lastly the Pharmacist who came into my room and explained to me about the medications I needed for home. A very big thank you to Omar for a great job. I have had no pain and going really well.

I can’t thank Fremantle Hospital enough for having everything in place. Before and after appointments.

Thank you

Dear kidna63,

Firstly, I am very sorry to read of the suffering you have described which has led to hip problems and terrible pain.

I was however incredibly pleased to hear of your recent positive experience at Fremantle Hospital following your hip replacement surgery.

It is so great that you were able to have the surgery within such a short time frame and I am incredibly glad to hear it went well.

We have such an amazing team at Fremantle Hospital, I will take great delight in sharing your message with all staff involved in your care.

I sincerely hope you are recovering well at home.

Kind regards

Neil Doverty.
