"Care whilst holidaying"

About: Albany Health Campus / Emergency Department Albany Health Campus / High Dependency Unit Gnowangerup Hospital St John Ambulance WA

(as the patient),

I had not been feeling well for months. Dizziness, loss of appetite, lethargic, etc

Despite this, headed off for our three week holiday to visit our daughter down near Tambellup.

I had two more episodes of collapsing , one Christmas Day and one Boxing Day.

Husband ended up taking me to Gnowangerup Hospital.

Thank god for Jamie and Matt. Your care and compassion was invaluable and basically ascertained my major issues with limited resources.

Thank you to Lewis from the volunteer ambulance team (I’m sorry I forgot your Dad's name). Thank you so much for giving up your public holiday to take me to Albany.

The staff at Albany… Jen in ED, to the most amazing nurses and doctors in HDU… can not thank you enough.

The team 3 doctor and her team!!

I will forever be grateful to your dedication, care, support, love and compassion. I was in a foreign city, foreign area and was very scared of the outcome.

Please know, you made such a difference to my health, both physically, mentally and emotionally!

I hope that WACHS acknowledges the level of commitment and support your team provided for this very grateful patient.

Best wishes for the new year to all and sorry if I forgot anyone!!

Regards a very thankful WA resident 😘😘

Dear Gratefulgeroresident,

It is incredibly heart-warming and rewarding to receive feedback like this. As nurses in HDU at Albany Health Campus we live and work in the Great Southern. Because of this, we acknowledge and understand the difficulties that are faced when sickness strikes and you’re some distance away from what is familiar, your support base and/or your loved ones. We aim to provide the highest quality nursing care to our patients in HDU and pride ourselves in providing individualised, patient centred care. We are so very pleased that this patient had a positive experience whilst in our unit and hope that her next holiday in the Great Southern does not include a tour of our wonderful hospital.

Kind regards,

Renae Dixon

Acting Clinical Nurse Specialist

Update posted by Gratefulgeroresident (the patient)

Thanks Renae, thank you for your response.

I have two older daughters who are both nurses and endured COVID, overloading, special care for dementia/alzheimers patients and I feel have been subjected to mental and physical stress from just doing their job.

I think the nurses and doctors do not receive enough recognition for their trained professionalism, especially their bedside care and manner (which I feel is their own unique quality, you can’t teach that)!

Please make sure they are individually recognised. ❤️
