About: Royal Perth Hospital / Trauma & Reconstructive & Plastic Surgery Services

(as the patient),

So after two days of my surgery getting cancelled and being put on as a priority, I finally get into the pro op ward going through the checklist only to be told by the surgeon that my case was too complex or above their skill set.. so they postpone me and have me wait round till evening just to be cancelled again.. yet it seemed all but 1 other person went through that day.

Dear Babyface,

I was very sorry to read of your frustration and disappointment while waiting for surgery under the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery team at Royal Perth Hospital (RPH).

Every effort is made by RPH to ensure patients are seen and treated in a timely manner, and I would like to acknowledge that the delays you are currently experiencing are very challenging and upsetting for you.

It does appear from your Care Opinion story that there was a breakdown in communication within the surgical team relating to the complexity of your surgery, which has further delayed the treatment you need. Without knowing your particular details it is difficult to comment further; however, I would be grateful if you would allow the Patient Experience team the opportunity to investigate your case, which will assist us in preventing this issue from occurring again in the future. I would urge you to contact the Patient Experience team on (08) 9224 1637, 8am to 4pm or email RPBG.feedback@health.wa.gov.au whereby a full review of your current treatment and care will be carried out.

The Royal Perth Bentley Group strive to deliver the best care in a timely manner and I would like to convey my sincere apology that this was not your experience of our service.

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion so that we can learn and improve the care we deliver to our patients and the community.

I wish you all the best with your upcoming surgery.

Kind regards

Ben Noteboom
